Church in Yagodnoe
The most exciting part of our trip was when we traveled to the town of Yagodnoe. To visit Yagodnoe was the main purpose of our trip. To reach Yagodnoe, we had to travel 8 hours by van on a mostly dirt road. Just a small part of the road was paved out of Magadan, and it was worse than the dirt road.
Br. Dave Hamilton had gone to Yagodnoe on his fact-finding trip in August. Br. Dave was the first American from a Pentecostal church to visit there. There he met Br. Vadim Gorelov, his wife, and 3 children. Br. Vadim has been working trying to establish a church, but having to meet in an apartment. Presently, the only church in Yagodnoe is an Orthodox Church. Br. Vadim has found a building in the center of the town that is empty (pictured below). We are praying about this building. What a testimony; a Holiness church in Siberia - the center of the town of Yagodnoe!
In the region around Yagodnoe were 300 prison camps set up by Joseph Stalin. In these camps thousands died. They froze to death or were killed by the guards.
Yagodnoe is located in the center of the gold mines in the
Kolyma region. Stalin sent political prisoners there to work in the gold mines,
and to die.
